Remote
- The council approved almost $9 million total in two police misconduct settlements involving former MPD officer Derek Chauvin, who used a knee-to-neck restraint against both plaintiffs in separate instances in 2017, three years before he killed George Floyd using the same restraint. The lawsuits were filed in June 2022.
- The council adopted an ordinance amending the noise violation exemption related to sounds associated with religious worship. One effect of the ordinance is that mosques will be able to broadcast the adhan (the Islamic call to prayer) five times a day.
- The council approved, in a 7-5 vote, a $110,000 police buyback contract with the Downtown Improvement District for support of the Minneapolis DID Summer Police and Police Reserve Program. Council Member Payne reiterated concerns he had with buyback contracts and suggested that policy revisions related to buyback contracts would be coming soon.
- Council Members Chavez, Chughtai, Ellison, Payne, and Wonsley voted no.
