City Clerk Assistant Parra says today's meeting will be 100% virtual.

Meeting is called to order at 5:33 pm with 1 member absent. No changes to the agenda. Minutes and agenda were approved.

Commissioner Vang says there are no updates on the Cultural Arts Plan.

Commissioner Barraza says the subcommittee met last Friday to review Chapter 3 of the Parks Master Plan. Time table shows a draft will be ready by June. Barraza shares that there is progress and he thanks staffs for their hard work.

Member Reports: Dr. Oputa acknowledges and sends her support to the Asian communities in Monterey Park and the country. She quotes Dr. King, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

Member Reports: Commissioner Vang expresses her gratitude for Dr. Oputa for her support during these times.

Member Reports: Chair McCoy thanks Dr. Oputa for acknowledging the Asian community and also shows her support.

Public Comment: Brandi shares that the warming centers have been a good resource and recommends commissioners to support the extension of them. “There are many people with health issues... being at the warming centers have saved their lives.”

Public Comment: Clare Statham shares her design ideas on University Terrace's expected play structure.

Public Comment: Debra Bolls, principal of Pinedale Elementary School (located behind a warming center) recommends the city to take into consideration of location's surroundings. Bolls reports disruptive behavior from a participant and shows her concern for student safety.

Gregory Barfield, Assistant City Manager, says that when there are more people at the park for big events, such as "Boots in the Park", more staffs are required to accommodate park visitors.
